The town that was built on rubber

I worked in Butler for a number of years, and came to know it pretty well. The town originally known as West Bloomingdale was eventually renamed for Richard Butler, who brought the rubber-making industry to town in the late 1800s. The American Hard Rubber Company essentially grew the town, employing hundreds of workers.

Like many suburban downtowns, Butler has its own character. Many of the buildings built there still exist, though through the years they've been repurposed.
